Work Scope
  • To design, plan and execute fit for purpose, cost effective maintenance, intervention or completion / workover campaigns that meet the requirements of the business.
  • Ensure that completions activities are compliant with WEL policy and D&C processes, standards and procedures.
  • To take lifecycle ownership of well completion process from conceptual design through to well handover of the asset(s) to Operations / Project commissioning.
  • To identify and manage both risks and opportunities through the well lifecycle process.
  • Where applicable implement standardisation of completion design to ensure that learnings and best practices are implemented across projects.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates for completion activities. Track and report performance of completion activities against technical limit. Ensure that technical limit and uplift data are reviewed and kept ‘live’.
  • Co-ordinate with stakeholders to ensure that cost, schedule and risk information is identified and disseminated.
  • Drive ‘Performance Matters’ within the CE community.
  • Where required, assume key roles within the organisation such as: Well Examiner, Contract Company Representative, focal point for a technical area like Sand Control
  • Provide technical advice, mentoring and support to less experienced Completions Engineers (including those on the Graduate Development programme).
  • Maintenance, Intervention and Completion Design / Construction
  • Responsible for both conceptual and detailed design work on the assigned project.
  • Ensure that the proposed designs are risk based, fit for purpose and cost effective and meet the requirements of the business unit.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities during the design and implementation of completion activities.
  • Timely identification and procurement of critical long lead equipment.
  • Selection, ordering and management of completion equipment and services.
  • Planning of completions operations and ensuring the Well Services team are prepared for the activities.
  • Preparation of procedures, acceptance criteria, handover certificates etc.
  • Provide onshore engineering support during completions operations.
  • Ensure that learning from previous campaigns are implemented along with WEL and/or industry best practices
  • Preparation of close-out reporting and records management.
  • Performance Matters and Technical Limit
  • Preparation of accurate time estimates based on technical limit methodology and appropriate uplifts.
  • Responsible for preparing completion cost estimates (to appropriate levels of accuracy (class 1, 2 and 3).
  • Conduct CWOP’s / TWOP’s / IWOP’s to optimise procedures.
  • Tracking performance against the technical limit estimate and the cost estimate.
  • Lead performance culture within the Completions Engineering community.
  • Continually challenge the accepted ‘norms’ during design and construction phases of the lifecycle process to drive performance improvements and reduce costs.
  • Lead HS&E in design and operations.
  • Lead HazID, HazOps, SimOps reviews and risk assessments. Ensure that learnings from activities are actioned through hazard registers or the relevant procedures / guidelines.
  • Business Processes
  • Ensure that the completions engineering portions of the Well Lifecycle Management sub-process assurance plans are closed out in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that all equipment and services required for the completion activities comply with D&C’s QA/QC standards, plans and procedures.
  • Where assigned as a focal point for a D&C standard or procedure, ensure that the document is issued and updated.
  • Where appointed a D&C Technical Authority, manage the activities within that designated authority. Approve deviations to relevant standards and procedures.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Hold peer and stakeholder reviews of the completion designs and construction to ensure awareness of the design, risks and opportunities.
  • Liaise with the DevCo during the conceptual and detailed design phase as they will be the D&C interface with critical internal stakeholders (Developments, projects, Business Unit).
  • Participate in critical Joint Venture Partner meetings.
  • Participate in critical reviews for other projects to ensure that they understand and are managing their risks and opportunities.
  • Provide appropriate levels of challenge are on completion design to drive risked, fit for purpose completion designs.
  • Technical Support and Mentoring
  • Provide technical support and advice to less experienced Completions Engineers.
  • To be a supervisor or mentor to a Graduate Well Engineer or JL 9 Completions Engineer.
  • Assess the Graduate Well Engineers work against a Competency Development element.
  • Contract Sponsorship
  • Where appointed a contract sponsor or company representative, fulfil the requirements of that position as defined in the ‘R&R of Key Procurement Stakeholders’, DRIMS #1755955.
Requirements
  • JL 11 Position: 12+ years completions engineering experience of which 3+ years must be in operations.
  • JL 10 Position: 8+ years completions engineering experience of which 3+ years must be in operations.
  • Experienced in the use of completion design tools (Wellcat, Wellplan, Prosper, Span etc.).
  • Experience in materials selection and completions equipment selection.
  • Broad knowledge of subsea, platform and land well completions, workover and intervention operations.
  • Preferably some experience in a related discipline such as Drilling Engineering, Well Services, Subsea Engineering, Production Technology, Petroleum Engineering.
  • Good communicator able to work with D&C teams, asset reps, JVP’s, regulatory bodies and contractors.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc. / HND in Engineering or Science subject. Preferably having completed a recognised Petroleum Engineering foundation programme with an Operator or Service Company.
